What Requirements Are There for a Restricted Barber License in Florida?

To obtain a restricted barber license in Florida, you will need 600 hours of coursework from an accredited barbering school. Our program meets all the necessary prerequisites to apply for a license. You can learn state and federal requirements for barbering, best practices for hygiene and sanitation, and have the opportunity to test your knowledge with weekly quizzes. As part of your senior project, you can prepare to sit for your exam.

The theory portion of our barbering program centers around the understanding and application of the Milady Standard Barber Workbook. This portion of the course is integrated with practical skills at each juncture to tie everything together. You can have the opportunity to gain confidence in hair cutting with step-by-step demonstrations, mannequins on which to practice your craft, and real client interactions. Our hair structure course gives you basics in freehand barbering, style cuts (including blow dry), fades, tapering, beard and mustache trimming, and more. The classroom portion reinforces your skills with lectures, hand-outs, and quizzes to test your knowledge of barbering tools and techniques.

We know the word ‘restricted’ can seem strange or even have a negative connotation. Don’t worry, this barber program gives you the full experience you can use to work toward barber licensure.

This barber program option gives you the full foundational basics of barbering. In short, restricted barbers can cut, style, blow dry, shampoo, and apply product. They are not permitted to perform any kind of chemical service, including services and add-ons like permanent waving, relaxing, and coloring.

To pursue and practice those skills, you will need to continue your barber education as part of our full barbering program. If your goal is simply to establish yourself and begin practicing, a restricted barber license will get you to where you need to be with the option to go beyond the basics at any time.
